This shawl has been dancing around the edges of my awareness for quite some time. I’m not a huge fan of stripes, preferring more randomness than that, but every time I see this crop up on Ravelry, I’m drawn to it.
As I was browsing in one of my favourite yarn stores on a weekend trip, I spotted a new shipment of Manos del Uruguay Alegriá. And just like that, I was pushed over the edge – a Catkin this will be!
I initially cast on with size 6 square circular needles, but my gauge was just a little off, so I went down to size 4 round circulars. I’m getting very close to gauge there, but a) I’d forgotten how bad round needles hurt! and b) I’m not convinced that I’m happy with the fabric drape.
I may start it over, which sounds awful, but I cast on within 24 hours of day surgery…which is when I discovered that a M1R and M1L were beyond my anesthetic-addled brain. So I’ve already cast on for this dang shawl at least 5 times…what’s one more?!
But just in case, I also ordered in some size 4 and 5 square circulars, so we shall see. 😉
And of course I ordered in more watch buttons, because this shawl just begs for that final steampunk touch!
