Sweet Dreams Come True
I finally finished my Sweet Dreams in June 2015, and faced the “Now what will I do with this utterly frivolous shawl that is in a colour I do not wear and a size I do not need?” dilemma.
So I blocked it, and put it aside, and finally decided to enter it into a fair.
I know, I know, that sounds so old-fashioned, and I took some good-natured ribbing over it from my friends. But since I’m a woman whose hobbies also include tatting, crochet, and baking, I’m used to people thinking I’m ever-so-slightly out of touch with the modern world. (That is, until they need me to help troubleshoot their computers, but I digress. 😉 )
Anyway, the day came to enter it into the fair, and I dutifully drove there and walked into the exhibition hall. A very nice volunteer helped me decide what category to place it in (knitted scarf, since it’s a small shawlette) and proceeded to help me fill out the entry form.
A friend walked by, and I held it up to show her, and one of the volunteers at the next table gasped and said “Make sure that’s displayed laid out – it didn’t look like anything on the table!”
So I left it there, in their safekeeping, and went away until the next week when I took my son, his best friend, and my father-in-law on our annual fair trip.
As soon as we walked in, I left the guys in line for ride bracelets, and made a beeline to see if I’d placed anywhere in the competition.
The same kind volunteer was there, and, recognizing me when I walked in,  said “Everyone loved the pink thing you made!” I thanked her, then internally crossed my fingers that it meant I’d find a ribbon on it.
Imagine my shock when I saw this:
Yes – that’s first place in the Knitted Scarf class, and Best of Show for the Knitting and Crochet divisions! I’m still completely flabbergasted 😀
So, while I still don’t know what I’ll do with this utterly frivolous shawl that is in a colour I do not wear and a size I do not need…at least I’ll have some ribbons for my knitting room!
P.S. Just for fun, here’s all the entries:
Tatted earrings won third place in “Misc. Handmade”
“That Flighty Temptress” won second place in “Knitted Hats”
Tatted necklace won first place in “Tatted/Other”
Congratulations Rebecca!!! All of them are beautiful! I wish that I could be up there to see them in person.
Thank you, Eva! 😀 I wish you were here too…not necessarily to see them but so we could hang out. I miss you!
