“There are stars whose light reaches the earth only after they themselves have disintegrated and are no more.
And there are people whose scintillating memory lights the world after they have passed from it.
These lights – which shine in the darkest night – are those which illumine for us the path.”

Thank you ! How do I join your group?
Rebecca,
Your pattern is wonderful & easily followed. The only problem I had was the finished diameter.
Even though I knit with size 0 (2.00 mm) needles, the smallest I could achieve was 7″.
If the man lives in a large city w extremely few others wearing a Kippah & he is the only one wearing one when his job requires him to be with hundreds of members of the public daily, he would very much prefer a smaller diameter Kippah so as to draw a little less attention in today’s world.
So, I made a change as reflected below in my write up of my 3rd.
Then, I thought it would also make the perfect ornament if only a bit smaller & lay flat, so that is my 4th.
I did put photos up on Ravelry of the finished four. I do knit daily, but extremely rarely put photos up & took down all my free patterns six years ago when I found out that two were being sold “everywhere” with just my name & copyright deleted.
Thank you very much for the pattern.

Kippah – w Star of David – Kochavim w 1.5 – Rebecca Diamond – CEH’s
1st & 2nd (CO 132 Full Pattern) 3rd & 4th (CO 108 for Partial Patterns)
Needles: 1st – 3rd – CO w 1, K w 0; 4th – CO w 2, K Rnd 2 w 1, K rest w 0
Yarn: 1st w Sock Yarn; 2nd thru 4th w Aunt Lydia’s Mercerized Cotton – 2 strands held together
Size (measured while on bottom of Corelle bowl) – Diameter of each: 1st – 7 1/2″; 2nd – 7″; 3rd – 5 1/8″; 4th – 4 1/2″
1st & 2nd – Cast On 132 sts & knit complete pattern, following directions, except substituted M1R & M1L for the Backward Loop Increase.
3rd – Cast On 108 sts; follow Round 1, follow Rounds 2-5 as Rounds 2 & 4: Knit 7, Purl 1, Knit 10; Rounds 3 & 5: Purl.
Now, skip to Round 18 & proceed as written.
4th (Ornament) – Leaving tail about 15″ long, Cast On 108 sts w size 2 needle; change to size 1 needle & Knit Round 2 as Knit 7, Purl 1, Knit 10; change to size 0 needle, then skip to Round 20 & proceed as written.
When finished, use a size 7 or 8 crochet hook to make a basic hanging look from the tail. From the Cast On edge, I chained 30, brought it back through the Cast On edge, fastened off, then wove the ends around.
Note, weaving in ends: for all the cotton ones. Since I held two strands together while knitting, I divided them for the weaving in to make a clean, reversible finish.

I’d never heard of Shadow Wrap Short Rows before, but found the finished look is outstanding & the entire process so much simpler than all of the usual wrap methods, so also thank you for that lovely learning experience.
For those who prefer text, alone or w video, as I do, see these two:

Set aside 10 to 30 minutes.
