That Flighty Temptress

As I was browsing Ravelry a while ago, I came across a post recommending Treasure Cast buttons. Of course I clicked over, and immediately fell in love with these Steampunk Watch Buttons.

I mean, I fell in love as in this hat immediately sprang into my mind full-blown, and I knew I had to pick up some buttons and knit this up.

It’s named after a quote from the always-wonderful Dumbledore:

“And now, Harry, let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.”

This hat is, indeed, an adventure! It starts with a Tubular Cast-on incorporating JMCO, and after a little ribbing, throws in a lateral/vikkel braid. After that, it swoops through a stretch of 3 x 3 garter ribbing, before ending with centered double decreases.
Then, stitches are picked up for a faux button band, and that’s finished with an attached lace edging. Last but not least, an applied i-cord is worked to cover the lace join.

Techniques:

  • Tubular cast-on
  • JMCO
  • Magic Loop
  • Lateral / Vikkel Braid
  • Button Band
  • Applied i-cord

Stitches:

  • SSK
  • K2tog
  • YO
